Guide to Care

FAQ

How to care for succulents?

1. Light ☀️ (Most important)

  • Ideal: 4–6 hours of direct sun (morning sun is best).
  • If indoors: place near a North or East-facing window (South-facing in winter).
  • If they stretch or lean towards a direction, it means there is not enough light.
  • If the leaves look scorched, it means the sun is too harsh.

2. Water 💧 (Less is more)

  • Water deeply then let the soil dry out completely.
  • Always water until it drains out the bottom.
  • Never let the succulent sit in water as it will cause root rot.
  • Overwatering is the #1 killer.

What soil is being used?

Potted Joy uses premium succulent/ cactus soil mixed with perlite, coarse sand and pumice.

Common problems & fixes

  • Mushy leaves or leaves that fall out easily means overwatering. Try to reduce watering, let the soil dry out or improve drainage.
  • Wrinkly leaves means underwatering. Water thoroughly and the leaves will look plump again.
  • Stretching leaves mean there is insufficient light. Try moving the succulent to a brighter spot.
  • Brown spots means burnt. In summer, watch out for extreme sun or heat days as succulent leaves can get sunburnt. Once leaves are burnt, they can never turn back to its original colour.

Tips to thriving succulents

  • Rotate pots every 1–2 weeks so they grow evenly.
  • Remove dead or dried out leaves at the base to prevent pests. Dried leaves at base is common and is a healthy sign succulent is growing.
  • Succulents are forgiving plants and much prefer neglect over attention.
  • Place pot in good airflow and lighted area to prevent rot and pests.
